About Us
Our organization strives to provide our membership with superior professional opportunities, as well as recognition for academic and community achievements alike. The interests of our members reflect diverse backgrounds in different areas of law--from Agribusiness to Public Defense and Personal Injury to Taxation. We engage the surrounding legal community with philanthropic events benefiting Children and Families of Iowa and the Drake Law Women Emergency Fund.
Our History |
In 1974, the "Drake Women's Law Caucus" was founded at Drake Law School. When the organization began, less than six percent of Drake Law Students were female. Later, the organization changed its name to "Drake Law Women."
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Drake Law Women expanded its activities and continuously improved as an organization. Today, the number of female students at Drake Law School hovers around fifty percent. As a result, the purposes of Drake Law Women have changed and evolved since its inception as a Drake Law School organization. The organization is one of the most active at the law school - sponsoring two annual philanthropic events and providing female attorney mentors. Most Drake Law School alumni were either members of Drake Law Women or have fond memories of the organization's activities such as the Auction. |
